IMF reps due in Argentina

DELEGATES from the International Monetary Fund are to arrive in Argentina today to begin talks on restructuring the recession-hit South American country’s crippling foreign debt.

The government in Buenos Aires is hoping to renegotiate US$195 billion (RM819 billion) out of a total debt of US$311 billion – including a deeply unpopular US$44 billion bailout loan from the Washington-based IMF in 2018.
