PETALING JAYA: The Perak DAP will leave it to the police to probe a sexual assault allegation against a party assemblyman.
Its chairman, Nga Kor Ming, said this was because the party was of the view that no one was above the law.
“Appropriate action will be taken, depending on the outcome of the investigation by the authorities,” Nga, who is also the party’s deputy secretary-general, said in a statement.
Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that police were probing a Perak executive council member after his Indonesian maid accused him of sexually assaulting her.
Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Children’s Investigations Division (D11) principal assistant director Choo Lily confirmed with the portal that a report had been lodged yesterday and that the man was being investigated for rape.
Police have since taken a statement from the alleged victim.
The assemblyman has denied the allegation, according to Sin Chew Daily.
