Billions still exposed to toxic trans fat, says WHO

EFFORTS to eliminate industrially-produced fat have a long way to go with five billion people exposed to toxic fat added to many food products, the UN health agency said today. The World Health Organization called in 2018 for harmful trans fatty acids to be wiped out by 2023. 

Over 1,000 road crashes logged on Op Selamat 5th day

MORE than 1,000 road crashes were recorded across the country on the fifth day of Op Selamat 19, which began January 18. Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Mat Kasim Karim said the 1,445 crashes involved 1,724 vehicles, with cars involved the highest number of cases at 1,310.

Second teen found drowned at Batu Layar beach

ANOTHER teenage boy who went missing at Batu Layar beach near Kota Tinggi yesterday was found drowned this afternoon. Kota Tinggi police chief Hussin Zamora in a statement said the body of the 16-year-old was found at 5.20pm today floating about 100m from the location he was last reported missing.

Moscow expels Estonian envoy, downgrades ties

MOSCOW on Monday downgraded diplomatic relations with Estonia and ordered its ambassador to leave Russia, accusing the Baltic country of “total Russophobia”.  This is the first time Russia has expelled an ambassador of a European Union country since Moscow sent troops to Ukraine on February 24.
