Indonesia jails 2 football match officials over stadium crush

AN Indonesian court today jailed two football match officials for negligence over one of the worst stadium disasters in the sport’s history. The crush last October at a venue in the East Java city of Malang killed 135 people after police fired tear gas into packed stands when supporters invaded the pitch.

Ringgit rebounds to close higher against US dollar

THE ringgit reversed yesterday’s losses to close higher against the US dollar today after the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) decided to maintain the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) at 2.75%. At 6pm, the local note rose to 4.5170/5200 versus the greenback compared to yesterday’s closing rate of 4.5230/5265.  

Bella abuse case: Defence closes case, courts sets May 3 for decision

Muhyiddin arrested at 1pm, to face charges tomorrow, says MACC

The Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission has confirmed arresting Muhyiddin Yassin at 1pm today and that he will be brought to the Kuala Lumpur courts tomorrow to face charges. MACC said the former prime minister was arrested after he turned up to give a statement to the commission this morning.

Ex-Fiji prime minister charged with abuse of office

PROSECUTORS charged former Fijian prime minister Frank Bainimarama with abuse of office today, months after an election removed him from power. State prosecutors laid charges against both Bainimarama and Sitiveni Qiliho, a key ally who is currently suspended from his role as police commissioner.
