Number of flood evacuees drops in Johor, rises in Sarawak

THE flood situation in Johor continues to improve as the number of evacuees housed at relief centres dropped further tonight. The State Disaster Management Committee said as of 8pm, 19,041 people were still taking shelter at 75 centres, compared with 20,107 people at 77 centres at 4pm.

IT is up to state governments to decide whether to allow or disallow the organising of the “Jom Ziarah” programme of visits to houses of worship, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said. Govt to bear cost increase for B40 pilgrims

PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today the government will bear the RM1,000 increase in cost for each B40 haj pilgrim this year. He said this was a change implemented by the unity government in providing subsidies for Muslims in the country to perform the pilgrimage.

Umno suspends Putatan MP for 6 years

SABAH Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin today confirmed that Deputy Chief Minister III Shahelmey Yahya’s party membership has been suspended for six years. “Well, he (Shahelmey) is suspended for six years, all right, thank you,” he told reporters without elaborating when met at the Kinabatangan Umno division delegates’ meeting in Sandakan today.
