Police confirm Australia seizure of heroin smuggled from Malaysia
POLICE today confirmed that the Australian authorities have succeeded in confiscating 336kg of heroin brought in in a container via Brisbane from Malaysia on March 13. Royal Malaysia Police secretary Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the drugs were estimated to be worth A$268.8 million (RM788 million).

Thai shooting death toll rises to 6
TWO more people have been found dead following a weekend shootout in southern Thailand, police said today, taking the death toll to six. Police are hunting two gunmen over the bloodshed in the southern province of Surat Thani, while local media reported that a third was among the dead.

SHARIAH Appeal Court judge Mohd Amran Mat Zain has been appointed Shariah Judiciary Department Malaysia director-general and shariah chief judge effective today. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said Amran, who joined the civil service in 1994, has 29 years of experience in the shariah officer service scheme.

THE Shah Alam Sessions Court today acquitted and released celebrity preacher Syed Shah Iqmal Syed Mohammad Shaiful from a rape charge. Judge Rihaida Rafie ruled that the prosecution has failed to prove a prima facie case against Syed Shah Iqmal, 27, better known as Da’i Syed.
