Miniskirt pioneer Mary Quant dies at 93
FASHION designer Mary Quant, the style queen of the UK’s Swinging Sixties who popularised the miniskirt, died today aged 93, her family said. Whether Quant actually invented the then scandalously short skirts has long been disputed, with French designer Andre Courreges insisting he was first to raise hemlines high on the thigh.

Italy’s Berlusconi improving but remains in ICU
SILVIO Berlusconi’s health has shown “steady improvement” in the past three days although the Italian former prime minister will remain in intensive care, his doctors said Thursday. Berlusconi, 86, has been in intensive care at Milan’s San Raffaele hospital since last Wednesday. Doctors revealed today he has leukaemia and is suffering from a lung infection.
