Bar president chides MPs for discussing Nazlan’s case in parliament

MATTERS pertaining to the conduct of judges should not be discussed in parliament, Malaysian Bar president Karen Cheah said today.   Cheah said revealing details of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation into Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali in parliament violated Article 127 of the Federal Constitution. 

French retail giant to offer menstrual leave

French supermarket giant Carrefour said today it would allow female employees to take days off if they suffer from endometriosis, a medical condition that can cause excessive period cramps.   The move is the latest to allow women extra time off in a country where paid menstrual leave still depends on the individual initiative of employers.  

Fuel prices unchanged for coming week

THE retail prices of RON97, RON95 and diesel will remain unchanged for the week from tomorrow. The Finance Ministry, in a statement today, said RON97 remains RM3.35/litre, RON95 is RM2.05/litre and diesel is RM2.15/litre.

Apad approves extra 256 buses for Raya balik kampung

THE Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) has issued permits for an additional 256 buses to run during Hari Raya to meet balik kampung demand, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said. He added that the number of buses approved this year under the temporary conversion licence for festivals scheme was 50% higher than last year.

Russia warns South Korea against arming Ukraine

RUSSIA today warned South Korea against sending weapons to Ukraine after Seoul opened the door to possible military aid to Kyiv in the event of a large-scale civilian attack. An ally of Washington, Seoul has provided non-lethal and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, but has so far ruled out military aid.

Ringgit ends marginally lower against dollar

THE ringgit ended marginally lower against the US dollar today, and is seen trapped in a sideways channel, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said. At 6pm, the local note depreciated to 4.4385/4435 against the greenback from yesterday’s closing rate of 4.4315/4360.
