MACC questions Sivakumar, again

HUMAN Resources Minister V. Sivakumar was questioned again by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in connection with an investigation into government contracts worth millions of ringgit, a source said. A Malay-language daily had reported that the anti-graft agency was calling up more people to assist in its probe into allegations of bribery.

Japan to evacuate its citizens from Sudan

JAPAN is preparing to evacuate its citizens from Sudan, the government said today, becoming the first foreign nation to pull citizens from the conflict-hit country. Violence between the Sudanese army and paramilitaries has killed around 200 people since a weeks-long power struggle erupted into deadly battles on Saturday.

6 areas in Malaysia experience heatwave

SIX areas in the country, Kuala Lumpur, Jeli (Kelantan), Jempol (Negri Sembilan), Betong, Sibu and Marudi in Sarawak, are in the grip of a heatwave, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia). The department placed the six areas under the Level 1 heatwave alert at 4.15pm yesterday.

Delivery rider charged over motorcycle blaze at KLCC

A FOOD rider pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today to a charge of causing mischief by fire. Azril Kamarunzaman, 34, is accused of burning 11 motorcycles and four electric scooters in a parking area at Suria KLCC at 3.30pm on April 13.

India population to surpass China mid-year

INDIA is set to overtake China as the world’s most populous country by mid-year with almost 3 million more people, UN estimates showed today. India’s population will be 1.4286 billion compared to China’s 1.4257 billion at mid-year, the United Nations population fund’s state of world population report showed.
