Court allows Zahid to reclaim passport

THE Court of Appeal has returned Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s passport to him for travel on official business.

The three judges led by Justice Hanipah Farikullah unanimously allowed the review application from Zahid, who is also the rural and regional development minister.

Deputy public prosecutor Abdul Malik Ayob raised no objection.

In February, the Kuala Lumpur High Court rejected Zahid’s bid to have his passport returned for good to allow him to carry out his official duties.

Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah said the court treated all accused equally.

However, he granted the temporary release of Zahid’s travel document so that he could apply for a diplomatic passport.

He said Zahid, who is facing 47 corruption charges, must return his passport to the court after the process.
