German media group boss under fire over staff messages

THE boss of Germany’s Axel Springer, one of the biggest European media groups, has been forced to apologise after the publication of a series of controversial private messages triggered anger in its ranks.

“I am sorry for offending, unsettling or hurting many people with my words,” the group’s CEO Mathias Doepfner wrote late yesterday in a message published on the website of the Springer-owned Bild, Germany’s most popular newspaper.
