No need to quit, I was elected fairly, Zahid tells Umno members

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi calls for Umno members to respect the choice made by the representatives as per the party constitution.

PETALING JAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged party members to respect the party constitution and the role of the party president, which he holds, as he was elected to the post democratically.

He said resigning will not be a solution to the problem. He was responding to several Umno divisions calling for his resignation.

Elaborating further, Zahid said Umno members must respect the choice made by the representatives, as stipulated in the party’s constitution.

“And we must respect the constitution because it has provided for (matters regarding) the leadership institution, whether this was at the division or department levels, or the state and national levels.

“This is stated in the constitution. So it must be honoured by members and all party leaders,” he said in an interview this evening.

Previously, Umno grassroots from various states had reportedly called for Zahid’s resignation with the latest coming from the party’s Paya Besar division, which, among others, had claimed Zahid was weak in taking action following a rift in the party over their continued cooperation with PPBM and Perikatan Nasional (PN).
