Police say SPM student arrests within bounds of law

THE police said they had acted within the constraints of the law when arresting two students over an alleged rant on the History paper of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt Suffian Abdullah said the two 18-year-old students were placed under remand to facilitate investigations under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.

CANCELLING directly negotiated mega projects under Budget 2023 will help the government save costs and avoid paying commissions to middlemen, Malaysian Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (Macfe) president, Akhbar Satar said.

He said government procurement must be open, transparent, be based on good governance and not involve any unnecessary waste of public funds and legal breaches associated with direct negotiations.

Israeli-Palestinian talks kick off in Jordan

ISRAELI and Palestinian representatives were holding talks in Jordan today, state media in the kingdom said, with the “political-security” meeting aiming to restore calm after deadly violence.

Jordanian state broadcaster Al-Mamlaka said the meeting, which kicked off in the Red Sea resort of Aqaba, was “the first of its kind in years between Palestinians and Israelis with regional and international participation” and would address “the situation in the Palestinian territories”.
