Zuraida calls Kamala an inspiration, looks forward to collaboration

Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin says US VP-elect Kamala Harris held the key to forging new beginnings in this era of women empowerment.

PETALING JAYA: Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin has called US vice-president-elect Kamala Harris an inspiration, following Joe Biden’s victory in the US presidential elections.

In a statement today, Zuraida, who is also Malaysia ambassador for the Women Political Leaders (WPL) movement and a vocal advocate for gender equality in the government, said she looked forward to working with Harris on shared visions for women empowerment.

“You are proof that no mountain is too high, and no ocean too deep for a woman to achieve anything she sets her mind to,” she said.

“As the vice-president-elect, you hold the key to forging new beginnings in this era of women empowerment, and bring about peace and prosperity to the global community.”

Democrat Biden defeated the incumbent Donald Trump in the US general election which was held last Tuesday, Nov 3. The counting of votes continued through the week and Biden emerged the winner on Saturday, grabbing the 270 electoral votes needed to claim victory.

In August, Biden announced Harris as his running mate in a landmark move that puts the senator from California in contention to become America’s first female vice-president.
