UK finances win boost before key budget

UK GOVERNMENT finances recorded a stronger surplus than expected last month, official data showed today, news that analysts said could allow finance minister Jeremy Hunt to further ease a cost-of-living crisis. Net borrowing showed a surplus of £5.4 billion (US$6.5 billion) in January, compared with the government’s own forecast for £400 million.

Penang Hill funicular train service to close from June 15-23 for maintenance

THE Penang Hill funicular train service will be closed for its scheduled biennial maintenance from June 15 to 23, and will resume operations on June 25. Penang Hill Corporation said in a statement today that the service undergoes two scheduled maintenance every year under the supervision of engineers from Switzerland’s Garaventa AG.
