SAN FRANCISCO: Apple Inc on Friday said that some iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models manufactured between October 2018 and August 2019 may not turn on due to a failed part.

The company offered a free repair program for users who are affected.

The iPhone 6s line originally went on sale in September 2015 but was officially discontinued in September 2018 with the launch of last year’s iPhones.

Still, Apple continued producing some iPhone 6s models for sale in select markets, including India.

The repair program is the sixth for Apple this year, according to the company’s website.

Earlier this year, it opened repair or recall programs for the old 15-inch MacBook Pro’s battery, some wall adapters, the 13-inch MacBook Pro display back light, MacBook keyboards, and screens on the Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 3.

KINABATANGAN, Oct 5 ― Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi has expressed hope for the edu-tourism infrastructure project at the Pygmy Elephant Conservation Centre near here to raise awareness among the people, especially the local community, on the importance of protecting the elephants from extinction.

Disappointed with the recent killing of elephants in Kalabakan, he said the local community should cooperate in the effort to protect the elephants.

“We hope the local community will give their full cooperation to protect the elephants and not to abuse or kill the animal.

“If not, the pygmy elephant will become extinct,” he told reporters after the launch of Damas Fect 2019 here last night.

The RM5.7 million edu-tourism infrastructure project is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

Mohamaddin also said that the centre would also become another tourist destination in Kinabatangan that will help boost the tourism sector in Sabah in view of the Visit Malaysia Year 2020 (VMM2020).

“We hope to record 30 million tourist arrivals and revenue of RM100 billion next year in conjunction with the VMM2020,” he added. ― Bernama

SHAH ALAM, Oct 5 ― Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has urged the younger generation to equip themselves with technical knowledge, soft skills and emotional intelligence to face future challenges.

“Communications, being agile and having the ability to evaluate and adapt are skills that are considered important today.

“As such, I urge the scholarship recipients (younger generation) to continue to develop their soft skills, strengthen their moral values as well as religious beliefs to become an ethical person,” she said when launching Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB)’s My Brighter Future (MyBF) sponsorship programme at Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah here yesterday.

Present were TNB chairman Tan Sri Leo Moggie and TNB president and chief executive officer Amir Hamzah Azizan.

Meanwhile, Dr Wan Azizah lauded the MyBF programme describing it as a proactive measure to help families from the low-income group get out of poverty status.

“I was informed that TNB would expand the scope of MyBF programme to students in Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions, Malaysia Technical University Network, polytechnics and community colleges.

“It is an appropriate measure as many students from the B40 group will further their studies in the institutions,” she said. ― Bernama

ESports a hard sell in education-obsessed Singapore

IN a country highly focused on academic achievement, Singaporean Galvin Kang Jian Wen did something almost unthinkable – he stopped studying as a teenager to spend more time playing computer games.

He defied parental and social disapproval after his high school finals to pursue his dream of becoming an eSports champion, but believes the sacrifice has paid off as he heads with his national team to Southeast Asia’s mini-Olympics.
