Federal Court erred in preventing Najib’s lawyer from withdrawing himself, says Shafee

THE Federal Court did not have the jurisdiction to stop Najib Razak’s lawyer from discharging himself from the SRC International final appeal, lead defence counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said.  

He said that it was a breach of jurisdiction to ask the lead counsel in the appeal stage, Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, to stay and “pretend to act for the client” (Najib).  

Govt’s bid to quash Tommy Thomas suit to be heard June 15

THE Kuala Lumpur High Court today fixed June 15 to hear the application of a special task force and the government to quash a suit initiated by former attorney-general Tommy Thomas regarding an investigation report on the contents of his memoir, “My Story: Justice In the Wilderness”. 

Thomas filed the suit naming the special task force chairman Fong Joo Chung, seven other members of the team, as well as the government as defendants.

Plantation worker fined RM6,500 for insulting Agong

THE Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today fined a plantation worker RM6,500, in default six months’ jail, for improper use of the network facilities by sending offensive communications involving the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on his Facebook page in December last year.

Judge Nor Hasniah Ab Razak meted out the fine on Muhammad Hanis Nordin, 34, who pleaded guilty to making and initiating the transmission of offensive communications using the Facebook profile page “As Bul” with the intention of annoying others at 3.23am on December 10 last year.
